Lush is opening a new spa in its Glasgow City store

Tucked away above the hustle and bustle of the Lush Glasgow City shop is a brand new Lush Spa, offering 12 different spa treatments across four single and two double rooms.

Opening Friday 1st March 2024 at 98 Buchanan Street, the space is home to 10 spa therapists who offer treatments including new Scottish-themed hot stone massage The Highlands, hot chocolate-scented full body scrub The Comforter, and face, ear and scalp massage, The Sound Bath.

The Lush Spa concept launched in 2009 and there are 18 Lush spas around the world offering a variety of treatments, from facials and full body massages to immersive bathing experiences, all of which can be customised with different Lush products.

Glasgow City will be the second Scotland location for the Lush Spa – joining the spa on Princes Street, Edinburgh which opened in 2012. Glasgow City is Lush’s first Scottish anchor shop circa 20,000 sq ft with 160 team members from over 15 different countries. In its opening month, the shop sold over 7,000 bath bombs (over 150 per hour!)

Two launch events will be held on Saturday 2 March at 12 noon and 1pm, featuring an exclusive chance to look around the spa, hand and arm massages, snacks and drinks from in-house vegan cafe Planet Blonde, an intimate performance from the Scottish folk singers who worked on The Highlands treatment soundtrack, and a goodie bag to take home.

Treatments include Synaesthesia (£160, 80 minutes) – Lush Spa’s signature massage. When creating Synaesthesia, Lush co-founder Mark Constantine wanted to create a treatment that would reinvent massage, playing with all five of the client’s senses to create a certain state of mind within them, which is chosen by them before the treatment begins.

The Highlands (60 minutes, £150) launches exclusively at the brand new Lush Spa Glasgow City and Lush Spa Edinburgh on 1st March 2024, before launching in all Lush Spas nationwide in autumn 2024. This full body hot stone massage features Highlands spring water, stones carved with ancient Scottish symbols and is choreographed to a soundtrack of Gaelic historical folk songs recorded especially for the treatment.

The Comforter? (£110, 60 minutes) was created by Lush Co-Founder Rowena Bird who loves a good scrub. Centred around a delightfully warming, hot chocolate body scrub and a silky, skin softening rose body serum, the treatment involves ‘endless’ massage techniques, perfect for relaxation. The treatment was created to combine seriously good body care with mischievously good fun and escapism.

Validation Facial (£120, 60 minutes) is a completely bespoke facial, featuring products which interact best with the client’s skin type to achieve happy, healthy skin while not interfering with the microbiome.

Jordan Bates, spa manager at Lush Spa Glasgow City, said: “There has been such a wonderful buzz and excitement around the opening of our spa, I really think the people of Glasgow are ready to be transported to an oasis of calm.

“We have so many amazing treatments to offer, from journeys to the Highlands with a hot stone massage, to Tales of Bath for a bathing experience followed by a dreamy hot oil-side lying massage – you can even be transported to a ship’s cabin scented with sea mist whilst listening to sea shanties as the therapist unwinds the tension in your muscles like the ropes of a ship in our full body Good Hour massage.

“There really is no other experience like a Lush Spa treatment, each is its own self contained journey with unique soundtracks, products and innovative routines. I know myself, and my team are so excited to start performing all of these magical treatments!”

The Good Hour (£140, 70 minutes) is a highly effective, firm, full body massage and one of the spa’s most popular treatments. The therapist works on the client’s muscles deeply and the pace of the motions of this treatment is akin to ropes being pulled on a ship, so the room is dressed as a ship’s cabin, eerily candle lit with scented sea mist and the sound of a rickety ship upon the waves.

Tales of Bath (£120, 75 minutes) was created to slow down busy minds, beginning with a seated massage, followed by a warm bath, ending with a restorative side-lying hot oil massage – so it’s safe for people in their second and third trimester of pregnancy too. Inspired by the healing waters of Bath, poetry and fairytales feature throughout.

Sound Bath (£80, 60 minutes) is a blend of massage, music and tuning forks to retune the mind and body using ear candles, and face and scalp massage, while The Spell (£90, 60 minutes) is a grounding reflexology-inspired foot and scalp massage that embraces the ancient art of treating the body through the feet.

Hard Days Night (£120, 75 minutes) is a Beatles-inspired treatment created in Liverpool. Clients enjoy all the benefits of yoga, a full body massage and a good night’s sleep while dressed in a pair of cosy pyjamas.

Karma (£275, 65 minutes) is a four-handed full body massage delivered by two therapists who guide the client through music, movement and meditation. Finished with a mango chai tea.

Shorter treatments are also available, including the rapidly relaxing face and scalp massage Tangled Hair (£45, 25 minutes) created by Lush’s Japan spa team, a rejuvenating Fresh Facial (£50, 30 minutes) and Tailor Made massage (£75, 30 minutes) which relieves muscular tension where it’s needed most.

The spa will sit on the top floor of the new Lush Glasgow City anchor shop, which is also home to a sushi belt, photo booth, Lush Shampoo Bar, Lush Parties, skin and hair care consultations and an in-store vegan cafe hosted by Plant Blonde.
