Purveyors of fresh handmade cosmetics, Lush is on a mission to leave the world and people’s lives a little bit lusher. Be that by inventing and manufacturing effective cosmetics that look after the needs of people all over the world and offer moments of self-care, or by campaigning for human and animal rights, or environmental protection and offering safe and welcoming shop and online spaces.

The bath bomb itself was invented by Mo Constantine OBE in 1989, because she wanted something safe and effective to calm her young children.  In a MO-ment of genius she created the iconic bathing companion known and loved by millions around the world, with one still sold every 1.5 seconds.  And it’s had some of its own historic moments since, including being displayed in the Tate Art Gallery shop; inspiring a whole ‘bath art’ phenomena; and being the centre of a House Wives of Salt Lake City drama!

For this World Bath Bomb Day, Lush is launching a new collection of bath bombs – each with a special 30 stamp to celebrate the brand’s 30th birthday.

There’s reworked returning favourites and viral best-selling scents, along with new creations and even a special collaboration to go home with.  The collection will be launching on the Lush App on Tuesday 22nd April, and will be available globally in-store and online from Thursday 24th April.

Jack Constantine, Lush’s CDO and bath bomb inventor comments: In today’s social media age, where we are losing more and more of our own time to scrolling, the bathroom is one of the last sanctuaries we have to retreat to. Shut the door, have a bath and take the time and space you need to properly unwind and recalibrate on how you’re feeling.  We want to do everything we can to enhance your sanctuary for self-care and bring you a small moment to yourself.”

Bathe like it’s 1995!

In celebration of World Bath Bomb Day and Lush’s 30th birthday, if you buy one of the new World Bath Bomb Day bath bombs on either the 26th or 27th April, you can get Butterball – one of Lush’s original bath bombs – for 95p … the price it was first sold for in 1995!

About World Bath Bomb Day

Lush was first awarded the trademark for bath bombs on 27th April 1990 after being invented by Lush Co-founder and Product Inventor, Mo Constantine in her shed in 1989. Although previously unknown, the term ‘bath bomb’ is now so widely adopted it has been added to the Oxford Dictionary and has become a global sensation.

Businesses usually safeguard exclusive rights to their trademark, by preventing others from using that mark. However, Lush decided to grant worldwide permission for anyone to use its ‘Bath Bomb’ trademark, which means the joy of escaping into a vortex of steaming colour is more widespread than ever. Creativity and competition thrive in an environment where ideas can flow freely, unencumbered by the fear of legal reprisal. Whatever your cultural traditions, relaxing baths provide a moment for reflection and recovery. It could be the colour, fragrance, bath art or sheer relaxation, this iconic Lush invention has taken on an identity of its own: bath bombs have earned a place in the cultural zeitgeist – the bath bomb is Lush’s gift to the bathing world!
