LUSH launches new fragrance range including ‘a masterpiece for the ages’ in time for the festive season.

  • Lush launch 12 new fragrances across the core range and Perfume Libraries in time for the festive season
  • Personalised fragrance gifting consultations available in Lush shops nationwide and global Lush Perfume Libraries

On Thursday 12th September 2024, Lush will launch a brand new fragrance range including four new fragrances in its core range, available in all Lush stores and online and eight new additions available at Lush Perfume Libraries with an option to be ordered into your closest Lush store.

Lush perfumes tell stories and evoke reactions. They are made in-house at first out of necessity but now out of love and appreciation for the artistry of fine fragrance. They are inspired by literature, music and life events. The perfumes contain beautiful essential oils and absolutes, which Lush sources from family businesses and local farmers where possible, prioritising ingredients that are lovely for the customer and beneficial to the community.

The new fragrances in the collection were invented by Lush’s three in-house perfumers: Lush Co-founder Mark Constantine OBE, who created many iconic Lush scents since the start in 1995 and two female in-house perfumers, Emma Vincent and Alina Gliwinska. In a predominantly male dominated industry, Emma and Alina have created some of Lush’s most loved fragrances. Emma has created customer favourite fragrances including “Turmeric Latte” and Alina created the fragrance “Alina”, created for every generation to enjoy.

New Perfume Core Range (available in all Lush stores and online)

Vegan Leather Jacket

30ml £30, €40,

100ml £60, €80

Lush co-founder and in-house perfumer Mark Constantine was inspired by the line in Gunga Din by The Byrds: “Have breakfast with me mamma, I hope they’ll let us in, I’ve got a leather jacket on, I know that it’s a sin”. It made him think that as a vegetarian company, many of the employees and customers don’t wear real leather, and this inspired him to make a leather-inspired, 100% vegan fragrance with clove, tonka and tobacco absolute.

“Vegan Leather Jacket is probably Lush’s greatest work since Breath of God and a masterpiece for the ages”  – Luca Turin, perfume critic and co-author of ‘Perfumes: An A-Z Guide’ and ‘Perfumes: The Guide’

Chelsea Morning

30ml £20, €25,

100ml £40, €50

In-house perfumer Emma Vincent created this gourmand-style scent inspired by the lyrics of the Joni Mitchell Song of the same name, particularly the line “and the sun poured in like butterscotch and stuck to all my senses”. It’s a sweet, citrusy, caramel fragrance with Tonka and Lemon Myrtle that both uplifts and provides comfort.

The Bee’s Knees

30ml £30, €40,

100ml £60, €80

In-house perfumer Alina Gliwinska was inspired by an accord of everlasting flower and petitgrain, originally created by Lush CEO Mark Constantine, and used it to create this scent to be reminiscent of her dad, who kept bees on a farm. It’s a fragrance of how she thinks he used to smell from a day spent in the sunshine tending the bees; sweet honey and the warmth of sun-kissed skin with subtle, smokey and hay-like notes.

No Way To Say Goodbye

30ml £20, €25,

100ml £40, €50

This bittersweet scent was invented by Emma Vincent, including rose and blackcurrant. As soon as she showed it to Mark Constantine, he smelled it and was struck by how much it reminded him of the close relationships he’s had with key people in his life and how it can be difficult finding the words or the best way to say goodbye. It also reminded him of the Leonard Cohen song of the same name. This fragrance is a lesson to everyone that we always create our own memories and connections with a fragrance.

New Perfume Library range
(available in Lush Perfume Libraries and optional through store curation)

Lush’s Perfume Libraries house the largest collection of Lush fragrances in the world. A unique place to awaken and arouse the senses, the concept offers visitors a chance to browse the catalogue of our perfume history and receive a tailored consultation to find the right fragrances for them.

Vegan Leather Jacket

Apparel Oil

30ml £50, €70

To offer a different way to wear a perfume, the Vegan Leather Jacket fragrance has been set into an oil base with organic cold pressed jojoba oil, specifically designed to scent a vegan leather jacket. To use, simply add a few drops of the oil to a clean cloth and rub onto your jacket.

Time Of The Season

100ml £100, €135

For this scent, Mark Constantine was directly inspired by the popular 60’s song by The Zombies, which shares its name. This is a really hippy-style scent with bright uplifting and earthy grounding notes blending together. A complex and interesting fragrance of Dark Sumatran Patchouli, Grapefruit and Neroli, Mark regards this as the best orange blossom perfume he has ever made!

The Dew On Their Hems

100ml £100, €135

In the song Sisters of Mercy by Leonard Cohen, there’s a line that goes: “Well they laid down beside me, I made my confession to them, they touched both my eyes, I touched the dew on their hem”. The idea of a crisp drop of morning dew on the hem of a skirt went on to inspire this fresh yet subtly sweet scent. As self-proclaimed hippies, this scent with woody and slightly sweet cedarwood demonstrates Lush inventors as hippies making products for hippies!

Sweet Pea

100ml £75, €95

This fragrance is inspired by Emma Vincent’s wedding bouquet, which utilised flowers and herbs known to create strong olfactive memories such as freesia, sweet pea, rosemary and mint. She also crafted it to smell like a florist’s shop at the end of the day, when the flowers are on the turn and becoming greener.

Bond St 1972

100ml £125, €170

Lush co-founder and in-house perfumer Mark Constantine built this fragrance around a memory he has of working in a hair salon on Bond St in London in the early 1970s. It’s a scent portrait of a strong woman who worked on reception, who was powerful, confident, and knew who she was. Mark recalls that the perfume she wore was like “a wall of scent”, like armour. While this isn’t a recreation of her perfume, Mark wanted to create a bold, strong scent to capture her essence, a green fragrance with olibanum and galbanum to reference the crisp, well-pressed green suit she always wore to work.

A Triptych Of Stories

The following three perfumes are very special and create a sub genre in Lush’s Perfume Library range.

Created byLush in-house perfumer Emma Vincent, these three perfumes are all based on experiences she’s had out in the field exploring how Lush sources ingredients; the people she’s met, the things she’s done and the scents she’s encountered along the way.
The naturally derived colours of the perfumes are intentional as Lush’s perfumers wanted to celebrate the colours created by the essential oils as opposed to diluting them out. The bottles have their labels printed directly on them so the beautiful colours of the perfumes can be appreciated on dressing tables and bathroom cabinets alike.

Abiba

100ml £100, €135

On a trip to Ghana to visit Lush’s supplier of Shea Butter, Emma Vincent met and formed a friendship with a woman called Abiba. A huge support for her local community, and a single mother who funds her children’s education solely through her work with the shea, Emma was inspired by Abiba’s resilience and wanted to create this fragrance with Ghanaian Ylang Ylang, Frangipani and Bay to honour her and her story.

Betel

100ml £100, €135

While visiting India to see a host of Lush’s materials and ingredients, Emma Vincent and her guide enjoyed some drinks and food one evening. To finish, they had some paan – a leaf from the Betel tree wrapped around chopped Betel nuts, slaked lime and other materials – typically used as a digestive aid, stimulant and palate cleanser. With this meal being a key memory of her trip, Emma created this fragrance with inspiration from the paan, as well as featuring materials commonly grown throughout the region, including mango leaf, aniseed and jasmine.

Hungarian Fronds

100ml £100, €135

Lush perfumer Emma Vincent was in Hungary visiting one of Lush’s Chamomile suppliers and drew inspiration from the natural flora of the country. Chamomile Blue is abundant there, filling the air with its characteristic herbal yet sweet scent. The word fronds refers to the delicate, segmented leaves that she saw across the country.
