Helen Moreton joins the Lush Employee Benefit Trust as Independent Trustee

26 June 2020

In March 2017 Lush announced its Employee Benefit Trust (EBT), where 10% of the company shares are held on behalf of all Lush Group employees.

In 2019, we held company wide elections to appoint our staff elected trustees and since then, we’ve been on the hunt for an Independent Trustee to join the Lush EBT board of Trustees and share their knowledge and experience of employee ownership and to help to guide us on our own Employee Ownership journey.

Today, the Lush EBT trustees are pleased to announce that Helen Moreton will join the Lush EBT Trustee team as our Independent Trustee. Helen brings with her 18 years of experience in retail employee ownership via the John Lewis Partnership. “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Lush as the new Independent Trustee of your Employee Benefit Trust,” says Helen. “Not only do I love your products, but I applaud everything you stand for. Doing work of meaning is of great importance to me and I have enjoyed a career of working with and for several purpose led organisations.

“I have been an active part of the Employee Owned Sector for over twenty years. I spent 18 years at John Lewis Partnership in a variety of independent and strategic roles; my last role was a non-executive one working within the democratic structures amplifying Partner opinion and advising business leaders upon growing a culture of EO. I now work with several other EO businesses in a Chairing, Coaching, Advisory and Training capacity, including Riverford Organic Farmers as Chair of their Co-owner Council and Turley as Chair of their Board of Trustees. I also support the Employee Ownership Association by presenting and facilitating at their key events.”

Along with the other shareholders of the business, the Lush EBT owns 10% of the Lush business. All permanent employees of the Lush Group are beneficiaries of the Lush EBT, and the 5 trustees look after the trust on behalf of all staff.

The five trustees are Independent trustee Helen Moreton, Co-Founder Mo Constantine, Director Karl Bygrave, and staff appointed trustees Wendy Winters and Julia Gritsch.

Wendy Winters

Staff Appointed trustee

Wendy, is the representative for the UK. “I’ve been in the business across the last ten years. Firstly as a Christmas temp, I’ve been a shop manager, a product and brand trainer and now a retailer for the UK and Ireland. Throughout my whole experience my passion for lush has come from the people who work for our brand, it’s what made me want to work here in the first place! I truly think we have the most unique and amazing work force.

I’m interested in being a trustee as my politics and activism both in and out of the company are about equality, inclusivity and diversity. Something I’d always strive to improve and protect. Beyond that I am excited to offer all lushies the chance to be heard, shape our future and keep changing the world.”
