根據香港中文大學的一項調查顯示，近 7 成香港人在過去半年曾面對失眠問題。調查更指出，25% 的受訪者表示失眠影響了他們的日常生活1。香港精神健康動力基金會亦於去年 3 月發表調查報告，發現超過一半本地受訪者曾出現失眠症狀，部分甚至每周至少失眠兩次，影響日間的精神及情緒狀態2。

當初開始詩賦藥店（Poetry Pharmacy）的動機非常單純而善良，除了之前發現詩詞文學對認知障礙老人的治療有幫助外，創辦人 Deborah Alma 亦有分享：「希望大家可以為自己繁忙的生活按下暫停鍵，靜下心來，好好反思一下自己真正需要的是什麼。其實，這樣做的效果比吃失眠藥更好。」

關於詩賦藥店 Poetry Pharmacy 創辦人 Deborah Alma
Deborah Alma 是一位英國的詩人、編輯，同時也與其伴侶 James Sheard 共同創立詩賦藥店。她的書籍包括一部舒壓詩選《Emergency Poet》、反對性騷擾的詩歌選集 《#Me Too》、《國家信託：自然詩集》，並與 Katie Amiel 博士共同編輯了《These Are the Hands – NHS 心聲詩集》和《Poetry Projects to Make and Do》，這些作品均由 Nine Arches Press 出版。她的詩集《Dirty Laundry》也由 Nine Arches Press 出版。她與 LUSH 聯合創辦人 Mark Constantine 共同編寫的《The Poetry Business School》也於今年 3 月出版，並且正在與 Macmillan 合作編輯一系列新的詩歌選集，這些選集將於 2025 年出版。

Trend of Deep Sleep Magnesium Massage Bar: A Reflection of Public Sleep Struggles
In October 2024, a social media post ignited an immediate craze for LUSH’s Deep Sleep Magnesium Massage Bar. Within just two days, the bars sold out both in stores and online across Hong Kong and Macau, achieving sales figures more than six times higher than the previous year. Additionally, the LUSH Sleepy range and lavender-infused products, known for their relaxing and soothing properties, quickly became bestsellers. This surge in demand underscores a larger concern about sleep quality and overall well-being within the local community.
According to a survey conducted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, nearly 70% of residents have experienced insomnia in the past six months. The survey also revealed that 25% of respondents indicated that insomnia has affected their daily lives.1 Additionally, a report from the Hong Kong Mental Health Foundation released last March showed that over half of local respondents had experienced symptoms of insomnia, with some suffering from it at least twice a week, significantly impacting their mental and emotional well-being.2

When Beauty Meets Literature: LUSH Launches ‘Poetry Pharmacy – Sleeping Menu’
The motivation behind starting the Poetry Pharmacy was simple and heartfelt. In addition to discovered that poetry can aid in the treatment of elderly individuals with cognitive impairments.
“I hope everyone can press the pause button on their busy lives, take a moment to calm their minds and reflect on what they truly need. This approach can be just as effective as taking sleeping pills.” Poetry Pharmacy founder – Deborah Alma said.
Currently, there are two Poetry Pharmacies in the UK that offer healing services through 100% handmade poetry prescription bottles, listening to and addressing people’s emotional needs. We warmly invite everyone to step into this space, take a moment to reflect on what you truly need, and choose a prescription bottle to uncover its poetic lines, embarking on a journey of healing for the mind and body.
In this collaboration, LUSH focuses on sleep and has specially selected 10 poetry prescriptions related to themes such as sleeping, insomnia, social media detox, mindfulness, and courage pills. These poetic prescriptions help alleviate the burdens of everyday life. We also understand that some situations may require a combination of remedies; therefore, we have designed a special first aid kit for sleep containing three poetry prescriptions to help you wind down before bed, making it easier to drift into the magical dreamland.
Lush discussed the recommended usage methods with the founder Deborah and created the “Insomnia” poetry bottle to accompany you on your relaxation journey before bed.
Here’s a suggested routine:
- One hour before bed: indulge in the Deep Sleep Epsom Salt Cube bath infused with lavender to help you relax. Taking a 15-20 minute hot bath can improve blood circulation from the heart to the limbs, lower core body temperature, and boost melatonin production.
- Massage: Use the Deep Sleep Magnesium Massage Bar, which contains 122mg of magnesium per 5g. Massaging aids absorption and promotes relaxation for both body and mind.
- Spritz: Apply Twilight Body Spray in your bedroom or on your pillow. The comforting scents of lavender and ylang-ylang will help you unwind.

The Poetry Pharmacy’s “Sleeping Menu” will be available from March 14 to April 13 at the Causeway Bay Great George Street Store in Hong Kong and the Senado Square store in Macau. Customers are invited to visit and choose a poetry prescription that suits their current mood, immersing themselves in the wonderful sleep experience brought by scents and reading.

About Poetry Pharmacy founder Deborah Alma
Deborah Alma is a UK poet, editor, and bookseller. Since 2012, Deborah has been the Emergency Poet, offering poetry on prescription from her vintage ambulance. She co-founded the world’s first walk-in Poetry Pharmacy in Shropshire with her partner, the poet James Sheard, in 2019, which now has a second branch inside Lush Spa Oxford Street, London.
Deborah is the editor of Emergency Poet, an anti-stress poetry anthology; #Me Too, which rallies against sexual harassment; a women’s poetry anthology, Ten Poems of Happiness from Candlestick Press and co-edited with Dr Katie Amiel. These Are the Hands – Poems from the Heart of the NHS. She is also editor of National Trust: Nature Poems. Her first full collection Dirty Laundry is published by Nine Arches Press. Deborah is also the editor of the Poetry Prescription series, publishing in 2025.
About Poetry Pharmacy
The world’s first walk in Poetry Pharmacy was opened in 2019 in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, by Emergency Poet Deborah Alma and her partner poet and lecturer James Sheard. Deborah had spent years travelling around events and festivals in her vintage ambulance, dispensing Poetry on Prescription, and opening a more permanent base from which to operate seemed the logical next step. The Poetry Pharmacy has moved from success to success, most recently being awarded Regional Independent Bookshop of the Year from the British Book Awards.
