In March 2017 Lush announced its Employee Benefit Trust (EBT), where 10% of the company shares are held on behalf of all Lush Group employees.

In 2019, we held company wide elections to appoint our staff elected trustees and since then, we’ve been on the hunt for an Independent Trustee to join the Lush EBT board of Trustees and share their knowledge and experience of employee ownership and to help to guide us on our own Employee Ownership journey.

Today, the Lush EBT trustees are pleased to announce that Helen Moreton will join the Lush EBT Trustee team as our Independent Trustee. Helen brings with her 18 years of experience in retail employee ownership via the John Lewis Partnership. “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Lush as the new Independent Trustee of your Employee Benefit Trust,” says Helen. “Not only do I love your products, but I applaud everything you stand for. Doing work of meaning is of great importance to me and I have enjoyed a career of working with and for several purpose led organisations.

“I have been an active part of the Employee Owned Sector for over twenty years. I spent 18 years at John Lewis Partnership in a variety of independent and strategic roles; my last role was a non-executive one working within the democratic structures amplifying Partner opinion and advising business leaders upon growing a culture of EO. I now work with several other EO businesses in a Chairing, Coaching, Advisory and Training capacity, including Riverford Organic Farmers as Chair of their Co-owner Council and Turley as Chair of their Board of Trustees. I also support the Employee Ownership Association by presenting and facilitating at their key events.”

Not only do I love your products, but I applaud everything you stand for. Doing work of meaning is of great importance to me and I have enjoyed a career of working with and for several purpose led organisations.

Along with the other shareholders of the business, the Lush EBT owns 10% of the Lush business. All permanent employees of the Lush Group are beneficiaries of the Lush EBT, and the 5 trustees look after the trust on behalf of all staff.

The five trustees are Independent trustee Helen Moreton, Co-Founder Mo Constantine, Director Karl Bygrave, and staff appointed trustees Wendy Winters and Julia Gritsch.

Karl says of Helen’s joining the Lush EBT Trustee Board: “We are delighted to welcome Helen to join us on the board of Trustees for the Lush Employee Benefit Trust.  We are looking forward to working with Helen and drawing on her passion and experience in Employee Ownership to help positively guide our Employee Ownership journey.”

Helen continues: “As your new trustee, I will support the other trustees in being guardians of your Ethical Charter. In my independent space, I will use my experience and passion for EO to provide insight and perspective in order to stimulate debate and inform decision making for the benefit of the EBT and wider organisation. I truly believe that EO is a better, fairer and more resilient way of doing business, where many benefits can be achieved when the power of ownership is understood and leveraged. I very much look forward to sharing this knowledge and energy as your new trustee.”
